First stop - South America!

Day on a plane: Gatwick to Lima. Who do I sit near on the aeroplane? Teachers of course!
Stunning sunset from plane just before landing.

London bound

So my backpack and I are in a rainy London this afternoon. Was going to walk, but rain stopped play, so pub with half a cider & a packet of crisps seemed like the next best idea.

Fitting your life in a bag

Well, after several attempts, packing is done!

Everything I need in a backpack for four months (I hope!) In the canvas bag is my sleeping bag, which I’m hoping I can pass as my handbag/personal item 😉

Please note, those of you that have travelled with me before will appreciate the lack of any bag with wheels!

Why?

Norfolk; a quiet corner of the UK, the place I call home. So why, when my family and friends are here and I can enjoy great walking paths, woodlands, beaches, great pubs and cafes do I always have a desire to leave, if only for a while?

Well, in truth, I don’t know! I think I was inspired to travel after spending a semester abroad in upstate New York when completing my teaching degree. After our studying was over, a friend and I got Greyhound bus passes for a ridiculously cheap price that allowed us to jump on any bus in the states.

Our first choice was to travel the 52 hour bus journey from Manhattan to Las Vegas (not the most well thought out desicion I’ve ever made!) However, for the next month we gathered many tales to tell on our journey around the U.S on board the Greyhound buses, eating 7 cent packets of noodles and...I loved every minute of it! Everyday waking up somewhere new and venturing to explore a different corner of a place, not knowing what you’ll encounter, or who you will meet along the way. And I guess that feeling has never left me.
