Leaving the cities behind, it was time to head to the place Bolivia is best known for, Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat. So difficult to describe - it’s a place you simply have to see with your own eyes to understand its beauty. We had fun messing around with photos, seeing the mirror effect and reflections from the recent rain, enjoying the sunset and reminding ourselves that we were driving on salt, not snow.
We spent the night in what seemed like the middle of nowhere in a cabin, rain gently falling on the roof, cosy under the softest blankets - honestly a night I will remember for a long time.
From one extreme landscape to another, we left the salt flats, lagoons and flamingos behind and crossed the border into Chile to explore the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on the planet. I love deserts! The rock formations here were just stunning, the patterns, how they rise up, volcanoes on the horizon all around us. So cool! Hot? Absolutely! Windy? YES! Super windy, but like being blown by a giant hairdryer!
How lucky to have seen two amazing, unique landscapes in just a few days. Extremely grateful.
