Peaks and Waterfalls in the Brecons

This morning I left the Brecon Beacons after time spent climbing peaks including Sugar Loaf, Skirrid and Table Mountain and the highlight being a stunning Saturday 10 mile circular walk taking in Fan y Big, Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du. It was towards the end of that walk that I luckily met Paul and Lesley (if you’re reading this I hope I remembered names correctly!) They talked me through some walks I shouldn’t miss in the area I was travelling to next, including a great climb and cliff edge walk to see a stunning lake and also an extended waterfalls loop.

I have walked in cloud, rain and under bright sunshine, all of which I’m grateful for and which you shall see in the pictures.

I’ve definitely also had to have ‘big girl pants’ on when driving on some of the roads! Hair pin bends, single track steep climbs with very few passing places and on one occasion ‘Mary,’ my 20 year old sat nav directed me down a gravelled forestry track! Who knows if it was actually the best route, or even an actual road, but nether the less we did end up back at the pub’s field, our campsite for the night. Dad would have found it hilarious I’m sure!

It’s a beautiful evening here in mid-Wales and we are camped by the river Wye, enjoying the last of the sunshine and occasionally glimpsing the Red Kites overhead. Poppy is napping before tea as today in Rhayader my plan for a 9 mile walk turned into a 15 mile route. One tired spaniel happy to rest her paws. I settled for a lovely, hot shower.

Enjoy your evening everyone 😊

  2. Hi Jules.
    It's Alex here.
I was the guy in the Land Rover and the tiny tent.
An honour, a privilege and a real pleasure to meet you at the campsite and hear your story. I was just so impressed by your sense of adventure and your adherence to your purpose.
    Good Luck and travel safe.
    Alex
